COVID-19. Mexican Patent and Trademark Office (IMPI) Update

As we previously informed, in view of the contingency measures adopted to prevent the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus, IMPI suspended its normal activities and interrupted terms from March 24 to May 31, 2020.

Today, a new decree issued by IMPI has been published on the Mexican Industrial Property Gazette, stating that the suspension of activities and interruption of terms have been extended until the Government’s COVID restrictions are lifted. It is expected that the decree is published in the Federal Official Gazette shortly.

According to the predictions of the Mexico’s City Government, IMPI could resume its normal activities between June 15 and June 30, 2020. However, this would strictly depend on the evolution of the pandemic in Mexico City.

IMPI has also stated that the return to normal activities should be materialized on a gradual, cautious and organized manner.

We will keep monitoring and informing regarding any updates.
